MEER Expands Reach in India: The MEER team recently conducted a significant site visit to Site B in India in ongoing efforts to refine application methods for our reflective sheeting. Site B in Pune is a residential cluster of eight houses with roof conditions ranging from semi-rusted to relatively stable.

Mohamed Koroma has lived in the Kroo Bay waterfront community in Freetown for more than 50 years but cannot remember a time when the weather has been as hot as it was in the first few months of 2024. In that period, he and many others in the Sierra Leonean capital had to cool down in their baths and sleep on their verandas.

Jessica Wan's work demonstrates that regional marine cloud brightening in the North Pacific can be effective at reducing the risk of extreme summer heat exposure over the Western United States under present-day climate, but the same interventions become ineffective and even counterproductive under mid-century warming.

Groundbreaking Partnership for Water Management Research On June 19, 2024, a momentous event occurred at the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) in Makeni. Dr Ye Tao and the MEER Freetown team visited the university to officially sign a hectare-scale collaborative research project between MEER and EBKUST.

On June 19th, 2024, a significant step forward in environmental research and sustainability was marked by the visit of Dr. Ye Tao and the MEER Freetown team to the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) in Makeni.

During the dry season, that was the daily reality for Khadija Kamara, living in the Kroo Bay settlement of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Her home has recently had a reflective panel installed, aimed at reducing the temperature indoors.

Paul Maidowski studied International Relations in Dresden, Beijing, and Boston and worked in international climate negotiations and renewable energies. He currently explores the climate mitigation potential of bamboo for future worlds with elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations.
