The meeting included talks by leading scientists from around the world. This event aims to offer a cross-disciplinary perspective on molecular self-assembly and self-organization.
The central topics were:
- Artificial systems: assembling synthetic molecules into well-defined nanostructures and supramolecular polymer materials.
- Biological systems: self-organization in model organisms from all trees of life.
- Inspiration from nature: applying lessons from biological self-assembly and self-organization to create biomimetic systems.
- Technological applications: translation toward smart nanomaterials and molecular machines with programmable functions.

Arctic Sea Ice Loss – A World of Trouble
What if Arctic sea ice melts? All of it… during the summer! According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), over the past three decades the oldest, thickest ice (13-20 feet thick) has declined by a stunning 95 percent and 70 percent of Arctic sea ice is now thin “seasonal ice” that quickly melts in the Arctic summer.
