Reflective Reservoir Systems
Water reservoirs lose vast amounts of water to evaporation and absorb enormous solar heat loads. Reflective floating covers turn that surface back into a mirror — saving water and cooling the air above.
Scientific detail
Reflective reservoir covers raise water-surface albedo from ~0.06 to ~0.85, reducing solar absorption and lowering surface temperature. This suppresses evaporative losses (documented reductions >70 % on covered fractions) while decreasing downwind sensible heat flux — a co-benefit for water security and local thermal comfort in arid regions.
